A Silly Bear that silly bear |
Anna was very tired one night, having been at school all day and having then played at the playground until it was dark. She went to bed early and was asleep in a few moments. Anna found herself in the strange garden she'd visited twice before. She thought she knew the drill, so she found a comfortable spot and sat right down on the red grass. And, as she had now come to expect, Luv immediately came from behind some of the giant flowers and sat down beside her. But he looked very strange. He was wearing a colorful hat that had a small propellor on top which was spinning around. He was also wearing a belt of flashing red lights. Anna didn't bother to ask Luv how he showed up out of nowhere. She figured he'd be evasive like he was before. But she could not resist asking: "Why are you dressed up so weirdly? Surely you wouldn't go anywhere looking like that?!" "Well", said Luv, "I dressed up in my festive best on your account. And I'm here, so I certainly would go somewhere looking like this. Namely, here -- to see you." Luv then hung his head, and she could see that he was crying. "Oh my!", said Anna, "I certainly didn't mean to insult you. I'm not very familiar with the ways of your world. Likely if you would tell me about your hat and belt, I would like them. Please tell me about them." Luv obliged, saying: "Well, I wish to be your friend and I thought we could both enjoy the hat and belt. I thought they would be silly and therefore fun." "Well," said Anna, "It certainly was nice of you to do that. And they are silly. And now that I know they are supposed to be silly, I think they are fun too. They make me smile. Can I wear them?" "Sure." said that silly bear, who was now grinning. And he took off the belt and the hat, and he handed them to her. Anna changed the belt around a little and wore it as a head band. And then she put the hat on -- backwards. She flicked the propellor on the hat, and she pushed a button on the belt to turn on the flashing lights. She checked out how she looked by gazing at her reflection in the water. She was most pleased. When Anna was finished admiring herself, she noticed that Luv was staring at her. Luv then said, "Why .... why you are quite handsome!" Anna was very embarrassed. So she frowned at Luv and stuck out her tongue at him. "Oh my, you have a lovely tongue!" said Luv. This really made Anna angry, and she chastized Luv saying, "Luv, you are unbearable!" Luv smiled happily, and then, as he had a habit of doing, disappeared. All day long, Anna was most pleased with herself. She was especially pleased with her pun. And she felt Luv's immediate disappearance was aknowledgement of the excellence of her pun. Luv, she thought, was, indeed, a silly pompous unbearable bear. THE END |
