Thoughts for July 2005 Birthday Page

The Basic Idea

The basic idea is to say Happy Birthday to Isabelle. Oh, and also to Rachel, Jasmine, Mia and Arden and to all beings with July birthdays. Hmm, and to do this in a way that contributes to everyone involved.

Three Suggestions

A General Suggestion

Please do whatever feels right to you. That could be a simple "Happy Birthday, Isabelle!". I'll make two more suggestions, but if they don't suit you, please ignore them.

Another Suggestion

Another suggestion is to write a short message involving alliteration. It could be a poem, if you wish.

By short I mean (say) 30 words or less.

Yet Another Suggestion

Yet another suggestion is to send

  • a small image that you'd like Isa to see.
  • with a short note telling Isa why you'd like her to see it and wishing her happy birthday.
  • plus identifying information.

The small image could be a photo you took or a drawing you made. It should be something you did, partly so there will be no copyright issues. By small I mean roughly 5 x 3.5 inches or smaller. If you send larger I may

  • reduce it.
  • use a part of the image.
  • put it somewhere separate.
  • some combination of the above.

In the short note, try to keep the note to roughly 30 words or less.

The identifying information should include at least your name and where you live.

If you send a bigger image, a longer note or multiples of either, I'm not sure what I'll do. Some of the options are: clip or reduce, move elsewhere and link to or not include.

Examples

There are examples of these suggestions in the right column.

About Isabelle

Oh, a tad of information about Isabelle may (or may not) be helpful:

  • In addition to Isabelle, she's sometimes called Isa or Guapa.
  • She'll be eight. She's getting very tall.
  • She lives in Brooklyn with her parents. She's beginning to have a Brooklyn accent.
  • She's fluent in both Spanish and English; and she's beginning to take an interest in French. When she visited here, Isabelle gave me several Spanish lessons; but, alas, I'm not a very good student.
  • She's getting really good at math; and she reads a lot too.
  • She's much into music, singing and dance. She loves American Girls, Lizzie McGuire and fashion.
  • She has a stuffed lion named Roarshock. Roarshock used to belong to her Uncle Jonathan. She knows a stuffed bear named Luv. There are many stories about Luv.
  • There's a website for her called Isaland. It contains stories and such things.

If these thoughts contain errors or are amiss in some way, let me know. One way to let me know is to email me at george in the domain metaart.org.

Some Examples:

       Barefoot Belle
She shrugged her shoulders and shyly shed her shoes. You could surely be shoeless too.

If you are in the mood, reread the story "Octagon in Blue". Our message is the feeling conveyed by that story.

 I won't write a poem.
 I decline to alliterate.
 I distrust all rhythm.
I would rather be an inmate.
-- Eugene El Terrible (the Web)

Happy Birthday, Isabelle!
-- Jonathan Woolley (Oakland, California)

Be happy, love.
-- Luv (from Mars and the Stars)

Even in disrepair, I am a heroic figure. Roar.
 I embody courage. Roar.
 I can inspire you. Roar.
-- Roarshock (Brooklyn, New York)
