Once upon a time in Central America, in the country of Costa Rica there lived a young squire named Ronnie Alfaro. He was a Perl monk and was reputed to have been a saint at an early age. He administered BSD systems, hacked Perl code, and did other such things. The young squire Ronnie set out to create a Perl Group with a merry band that had formed about him. He asked the great Perl Monger gods for an appropriate pm name. And forth with, they granted him his wish of CostaRica.pm. But alas the great Perl gods saw the world, very simply, as divided into 6 great continents plus a non-geographic something or other. There was a North American Continent and there was a South American Continent, but they thought not of Central America. And so it came to pass that they referred to Costa Rica as belonging to South America. Both Ronnie and his merry band felt slighted. Costa Rica as part of South America? That was absurd. Ronnie petitioned the great Perl Monger gods. But his petitions were ignored or rejected. So Ronnie did a great magic. He put a magic map of the Americas with South America at the top at the entry to the CostaRica.pm site. Under the map were words in Spanish which when translated into English said roughly: Why is the map like this? Well, that's because PM.org doesn't want to add a Central American area. Even in this position, if you look, there is something in the middle. That's CENTRAL AMERICA! Yeah, believe me, it exists there. Once again Ronnie petitioned the great Perl Monger gods on high, and this time they did a magic of their own and made Central America a Continent. Many people were most pleased with Ronnie for persevering and for his ingenuity and success and also with the Perl Monger gods for relenting. No Central America? Of course there is a Central America. Ronnie removed the magical map from his home page. His group was now more happy. His name was celebrated far and wide. For example, Guatemala.pm honored him on their home page. Even the ambassador to Central America from far off Oakland was amazed and celebrated the occasion. And it came to pass that squire Ronnie was knighted and became reknowned as the Lord of CostaRica.pm. Who knows what other legends he and CostaRica.pm and the Central American Continent may create in this Perl Universe. THE END |
